Extension Privacy Policy & Terms of Use
Effective date: 2026-07-25 · Applies to the SMKlog Quick Quote browser extension. Quotes submitted through the extension are also covered by the site-wide Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
Single Purpose
SMKlog Quick Quote has one purpose: preparing a shipping quote for the item on the page you are viewing. It has no other function — no advertising, no analytics injection, no content modification beyond its own quote badge and panel.
What the Extension Reads
To detect the item, the extension reads from the current page only: the product or listing title, the page address, and — on local classified listings that display one — the seller's approximate ZIP code published in the ad itself. On known product and listing pages it shows a small quote badge; pages that do not look like a product or listing are left untouched.
The shipment details you type in (ZIP codes, quantity, optional package dimensions and weight) stay in the form until you press the quote button.
When Data Is Sent
Nothing is sent anywhere by hovering or opening the badge. A request goes to SMKlog's quote service (quote-api.smklog.com) only when you press "Get shipping rates". That request contains the detected item name, the page address (except on login-walled marketplaces, where the address is dropped), and the shipment details you entered. It is used solely to return live carrier rates and routing guidance, exactly like a quote typed into the calculator on smklog.com.
What the Extension Never Collects
No browsing history. No list of the sites you visit. No passwords, payment card numbers, or page cookies. No content from other tabs. No keystroke logging. Your ZIP codes are not remembered between pages, are not written to extension storage, and are not shared with anyone beyond the quote request you explicitly send. SMKlog does not sell or rent any data from the extension to third parties.
What Is Stored Locally
Only your display preferences: whether the automatic badge is enabled, and the list of sites where you chose to hide it. These live in your browser's extension storage and disappear when you uninstall the extension. No account is required to use the extension. Alongside them the extension keeps a random installation id, used to count how often the badge is shown and used. Those counters carry the shop’s domain only — for example ebay.com — never the product name, never the page address, and never anything you typed.
Permissions Explained
activeTab / scripting — lets the toolbar popup read the product title from the tab you clicked on. storage — keeps your badge on/off preferences. quote-api.smklog.com — the only server the extension talks to, used for the quote itself. The badge content script is allowed on any https page for one reason: people sell things everywhere — a marketplace, a forum thread, a shop nobody has heard of — and a shipping price can only be offered for a listing the extension is allowed to look at. It sends nothing on its own. On a page that is not a listing it does nothing further, and with the badge switched off it does not examine the page at all. If you would rather invoke it by hand, Chrome’s own extension settings let you set site access to “On click”.
Quotes Are Estimates
Rates shown in the extension are live carrier estimates based on the detected item and an estimated package. Final pricing is confirmed on smklog.com at checkout, after address validation and restricted-item checks. Oversized, freight, international, and restricted shipments are routed to a manual review instead of an instant label.
No Payment in the Extension
The extension never asks for or handles payment. Checkout, labels, tracking, shipping protection, pickups, and returns all happen on smklog.com.
Acceptable Use
Use the extension for lawful shipping of items you are allowed to ship. Automated scraping of the quote service, attempts to bypass rate limits, and use in connection with prohibited items (weapons, illegal goods, hazardous materials outside our published battery rules) are not permitted. SMKlog may throttle or block abusive traffic.
Availability & Scope
The extension currently serves quotes for shipments within the United States. Features may change as the product evolves; material changes to this policy will be reflected on this page with a new effective date.
Uninstalling
Remove the extension at any time from your browser's extension manager (chrome://extensions). Removal deletes all locally stored preferences. To request deletion of quote data linked to requests you sent, contact us below.
