Summary
SMKlog offers optional parcel shipping protection through SMKlog's insurance partner for eligible shipments. The selected carrier still transports the package. SMKlog's insurance partner provides the insurance record and claim process. SMKlog helps coordinate the label, payment, shipment record, and claim information.
When Protection Applies
- The package must be eligible for SMKlog self-service parcel checkout.
- The label and protection must be purchased through the SMKlog checkout flow before the package enters the carrier network.
- The declared item value must reflect the retail value paid by the recipient and should be supported by an invoice or proof of value.
- During SMKlog's current pilot, self-service protection is available only for domestic U.S. parcel shipments and is capped at $500 declared item value.
- Freight, pallet, crated, oversized, restricted, suspicious, or manually reviewed shipments are not eligible for this self-service protection flow.
What It May Cover
The insurance partner describes the coverage as protection for packages that are lost, stolen, or damaged after entering the carrier's mail stream. Coverage and claim approval depend on the insurance partner's policy, claim documentation, carrier tracking, and package eligibility.
Pricing
SMKlog shows the protection price before checkout. SMKlog may charge a displayed customer price during its pilot to cover payment processing, support, and operational handling.
Important Exclusions
Do not buy protection if the item is prohibited, restricted, misdeclared, poorly packed, or unsupported by proof of value. SMKlog may cancel, refuse, or route the order to manager review when the shipment appears ineligible.
Claim Timing and Documents
- Damage or theft claims generally must be filed within 30 days of label creation.
- Domestic lost-package claims generally cannot be filed before 15 days after label creation and must be filed no later than 60 days after label creation.
- Keep invoice or proof of value, customer communication, photos of damaged item and packaging, and any carrier evidence.
