Christmas falls on a Friday in 2026. A deadline copied from a year when it fell midweek is wrong by days.
USPS send-by dates for 25 December 2026
Transcribed on 2026-09-28 from the USPS holiday shipping dates page and the Postal Service newsroom release of 22 September. These are the dates USPS recommends for arrival by Christmas Day, not delivery guarantees.
| Service | Lower 48 states | Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and U.S. territories |
|---|---|---|
| USPS Ground Advantage | Thursday 17 December | Wednesday 16 December |
| First-Class Mail | Thursday 17 December | Thursday 17 December |
| Priority Mail | Friday 18 December | Friday 18 December |
| Priority Mail Express | Saturday 19 December | Saturday 19 December |
For parcels leaving the country, the same USPS page lists Wednesday 9 December for Priority Mail International and First-Class Package International Service and Wednesday 16 December for Priority Mail Express International, the same for every region it names. Re-read on 2026-10-07, those three dates had not changed, and the page now carries the military dates as well.
| Service | Send by |
|---|---|
| USPS Ground Advantage | Wednesday 4 November |
| First-Class Mail | Wednesday 9 December |
| Priority Mail | Wednesday 9 December |
| Priority Mail Express Military Service | Wednesday 16 December, where the destination post office offers it; USPS lists it as not available to ZIP 093 |
The dates are the same for every APO, FPO and DPO ZIP range USPS lists: 090–099, 340 and 962–966. Ground Advantage is the one to watch, because it closes five weeks before First-Class Mail and Priority Mail.
What we checked, and what came back
This page exists because the alternative is repeating dates that nobody has published. Here is the state of play on the day of writing.
- FedEx — posted. Checked again on 2026-09-21: the last-days-to-ship page has moved to fedex.com/en-us/holiday/last-days-to-ship.html, and it now offers a 2026 shipping deadlines document alongside the 2026 operations schedule. FedEx was the first of the three to put send-by dates out. The document itself is a PDF that refuses automated requests, so we are not transcribing dates from it here — open it from that page and read it at the source.
- USPS — posted 22 September. The Postal Service announced its 2026 recommended dates in a newsroom release on 22 September, and on 2026-09-28 the holiday shipping dates page on usps.com carried them in full. The domestic dates are in the table above. On 2026-09-21 that same address still redirected to a general shipping page, which is why this page said otherwise for a week. Re-read on 2026-10-07: the international dates were unchanged and the military dates had been added; both sit under the domestic table.
- UPS — operations calendar only. Re-read on 2026-09-21 from the 2026 U.S. holiday operations schedule UPS publishes as a PDF. There is still no standalone Christmas cutoff sheet; what the calendar gives you is which days run and two dated pickup cutoffs for late December, both transcribed below.
So on 2026-09-28 two carriers out of three have published send-by dates. If you ship UPS, what you can plan against right now is which days its network runs, in the calendar below.
December 2026 as the carriers have published it
Every entry below is transcribed from a carrier calendar read on 2026-07-28; the UPS and FedEx rows were re-read against the same calendars on 2026-09-21 and had not changed. Christmas Day falls on a Friday this year, which puts the closure at the end of a working week rather than the middle.
| Date | Day | UPS | FedEx | USPS |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 23 December | Wednesday | Normal operations | Open | Not a listed USPS holiday |
| 24 December | Thursday | Delivery of Air, international Air, Standard and Ground; pickup only for Air prearranged by 18 December | Modified service, modified Ground pickups | Not a listed USPS holiday |
| 25 December | Friday | Closed for ground, air and international | Closed | Christmas Day holiday, Post Offices closed |
| 26 December | Saturday | Not listed on the UPS calendar | Open | Not a listed USPS holiday |
| 28 December | Monday | Not listed on the UPS calendar | Open | Not a listed USPS holiday |
| 31 December | Thursday | Delivery of Air and international Air only; pickup only for Air prearranged by 28 December | Modified service, modified Ground pickups | Not a listed USPS holiday |
Where a row says not listed, that means the date does not appear on the UPS holiday calendar at all, which is how UPS marks an ordinary working day. We are not going to translate that into a promise on its behalf.
Working a safe date out yourself
Until the cutoffs land, the method is straightforward: take the window your own quote returns, add every closed or modified day inside it, then add a buffer for the weeks when volume is highest. Here is what the windows look like on a long domestic lane right now.
| Carrier | Service | Price | Window returned |
|---|---|---|---|
| UPS | Ground Saver | $19.14 | none returned |
| UPS | Ground | $19.30 | 6-7 business days |
| USPS | Ground Advantage | $19.64 | 5-6 business days |
| FedEx | Ground Economy | $20.50 | 7-8 business days |
| UPS | 2nd Day Air | $31.43 | 2-3 business days |
The three ground rows carrying a window run from 5-6 to 7-8 business days across $1.20 of price, and the air row cuts the window to 2-3 for $12.29 over the cheapest row on the lane. A parcel bought on ground in mid-December with a 7-8 business day window is realistically crossing two weekends before it lands, which is the arithmetic the deadline charts exist to save you from doing.
Check the carrier, not the aggregator
When these dates do land, they land on usps.com, ups.com and fedex.com first. A December date reprinted on a logistics blog in July came from somewhere else, and the somewhere else is almost always last year.
Christmas on a Friday changes the shape
A Friday closure sits against a weekend, so the practical gap for ground parcels is longer than a single day. Build that into any cutoff you promise a customer rather than counting only the marked holiday.
Buy the window, not the badge
If a date genuinely has to hold, the thing to pay for is a shorter quoted window on your actual lane. Service names are marketing; the window returned with the rate is the number that describes your parcel.
Holiday deadlines: straight answers
What are the 2026 USPS Christmas shipping deadlines?
USPS published them on 22 September 2026. For delivery by 25 December inside the lower 48 states, send USPS Ground Advantage and First-Class Mail by Thursday 17 December, Priority Mail by Friday 18 December and Priority Mail Express by Saturday 19 December. To Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and U.S. territories the only change is Ground Advantage, which moves a day earlier to Wednesday 16 December. We transcribed these from the USPS holiday shipping dates page and its newsroom release on 2026-09-28. They are USPS recommendations for arrival by Christmas, not guarantees.
Has FedEx published its 2026 Christmas shipping deadlines?
Yes. FedEx moved its last-days-to-ship page to fedex.com/en-us/holiday/last-days-to-ship.html, and on 2026-09-21 that page linked a 2026 shipping deadlines document next to the 2026 operations schedule. We are not reprinting dates out of it: the file is a PDF that refuses automated requests, so the only copy we could stand behind is the one you open yourself from that page. USPS has since published its own dates, on 22 September. UPS had not published a Christmas cutoff sheet when we last read its calendar on 2026-09-21.
What has been published for December 2026?
The operating calendars. UPS shows Christmas Eve on Thursday 24 December as a delivery day with pickup limited to prearranged Air collections, Christmas Day closed, and New Year's Eve as Air delivery only. FedEx shows 23 December open, 24 December on modified service, 25 December closed and Saturday 26 December open. USPS observes Christmas Day as one of its eleven holidays.
When should I ship if there is no published deadline yet?
Work backwards from the window your own quote returns, then add every closed day inside it. On a long domestic lane our 2026-07-28 quotes returned ground windows of 5-6 to 8-9 business days and air windows of 2-3, which is the spread you are planning against. That is the method for UPS until it posts a cutoff sheet; re-check its calendar in October.
Do you sell international holiday shipping?
Partly, now: SMKlog sells US domestic parcel labels and international labels to Canada, the UK, Germany and Australia, with no account required and the customs declaration completed at checkout. Other countries, and military or territory routing, still have to be arranged with the carrier directly or through a manual review.
