Same niche, new label

We priced the exact weight range the retired product owned, on two lanes, and kept the windows the quotes carried.

The light-parcel range, quoted 2026-07-27

Our test carton measures 25 x 20 x 10 cm. East means Newark, NJ 07102 to Atlanta, GA 30303; west means Los Angeles, CA 90011 to New York, NY 10001. These four weights bracket the territory First-Class Package historically covered plus a step beyond it.

WeightEast priceEast transitWest priceWest transit
1 lb$9.916-7 business days$11.125-6 business days
2 lb$9.486-7 business days$13.045-6 business days
3 lb$9.486-7 business days$13.045-6 business days
5 lb$11.126-7 business days$13.425-6 business days

A pleasant oddity worth repeating: the 2 lb and 3 lb rows priced below the 1 lb row heading east, $9.48 versus $9.91. Band edges do that — though the effect didn't repeat westbound this round, where 1 lb stayed the cheapest of the four. The old ounce-based logic still applies underneath a pound, so a 9 oz phone accessory books cheaper than anything shown here; the calculator prices those bands live from the description you type.

Try it westbound

Ounces still matter below a pound

The sub-1 lb bands survived the merger, which is why sellers of jewelry, trading cards and phone cases still see prices under the 1 lb figures on this page. State the real packed weight and let the band find you.

Old listings need a text edit, not a strategy change

Marketplace templates that promise 'First-Class shipping' aren't lying, exactly; the buyer receives the successor service. Updating the wording avoids disputes with buyers who track the label and see a different product name.

Speed expectations deserve a reset

Ground windows ran 6-7 business days east and 5-6 west in our capture. If a buyer needs faster, the same quote screen showed Priority Mail at $16.47 westbound at 1 lb with a 2-3 day window; the upgrade is a click, not a different workflow.

First-Class Package, present tense

What happened to First-Class Package Service?

USPS retired the name in July 2023 and rolled the product into Ground Advantage. The light-parcel niche it served, under a pound, tracked, inexpensive, still exists; it just books under the new name with ounce-based pricing intact below 1 lb.

What does the replacement cost for a 1 lb parcel?

On 2026-08-21 our checkout quoted $9.91 from Newark to Atlanta and $11.12 from Los Angeles to New York for a 1 lb carton, both all-in with tracking. Sub-pound parcels price by ounce band and typically land under those figures.

Is anything worse under Ground Advantage?

The First-Class name implied airlift on longer hauls; the successor is explicitly ground, and our capture quoted 6-7 business day windows east and 5-6 west. Light parcels gained price consistency and lost a little top speed, which most casual shipments never notice.

Which weights should still use this tier?

Our capture makes the case plainly at 1 through 3 lb, where the quotes ran $9.48 to $13.04 across both lanes and nothing undercut them. From 5 lb upward the reseller ground tiers close in fast, so compare live before defaulting.
