A car or a bike bound for Hawaii is rated against a sailing schedule, not a road distance.
Why a transporter stops at the coast
Nothing about a truck-and-trailer booking gets a bike past the mainland. Pasha Hawaii's Ship a Vehicle overview, read 2026-08-26, names a motorcycle among the vehicle types it carries, alongside cars, trucks, SUVs, vans, ATVs and golf carts — which means a bike is booked as a vehicle, on the same deck and through the same desk as a sedan, rather than as a lighter or cheaper class of its own. The dimension envelope printed on that overview is built around cars and a motorcycle is nowhere near it; the limit that actually binds a bike is a separate one, and it is the subject of the next section. Our vehicle-to-Hawaii guide carries the car-sized numbers.
SMKlog's own checkout does not touch this leg. SMKlog sells parcel labels only and does not arrange pallet or freight shipments.
The motorcycle-specific limits
A car gets measured against a dimension envelope built for cars. A motorcycle gets its own, narrower test, published on Pasha Hawaii's vehicles FAQ and read for this page on 2026-08-26.
| Question | What the FAQ says |
|---|---|
| Maximum length | No more than 96 inches |
| Maximum tire width | 8 inches |
| Storage compartments | Saddlebags on motorcycles are named specifically, alongside toolboxes and truck beds, as compartments that must be emptied |
| Personal items generally | The vehicle must be free of all personal belongings, with every compartment clean and unlocked for inspection |
Most street bikes clear 96 inches and an 8 inch tire without trouble; a stretched cruiser, a trike, or a bike wearing an oversized rear tire is exactly the case to raise with the booking desk before you commit to a sailing date, because the FAQ prints those two numbers as maximums and says nothing about what happens above them. Measure the actual machine, not the spec sheet from the year it was made, since aftermarket wheels and tires change the number.
The sailing, not the road, sets the calendar
Vehicles do not move on a daily schedule the way parcels do. Two separate numbers matter, and they come from two separate Pasha Hawaii pages: how often a vessel calls at your island, and how long the crossing itself takes once that vessel has left.
| Hawaii port | Sailing frequency as published | Stated transit after departure |
|---|---|---|
| Honolulu | Weekly service | Approximately 5 days |
| Kahului | Bi-weekly service | Approximately 7 days |
| Hilo | Bi-weekly service | Approximately 7 days |
Oahu is the port with the plainest calendar. For Maui and the Big Island the carrier's own word is bi-weekly, which different desks read as either twice a week or once a fortnight, so ask the booking agent for the actual sailing date and the cutoff that goes with it rather than working backwards from the word. Whichever it turns out to be, a missed cutoff on those two islands costs more waiting than the same slip on a weekly service.
What comes out of the saddlebags ships as a parcel
| Service | Price | Quoted delivery |
|---|---|---|
| UPS Ground | $134.37 | 7-8 business days |
| UPS Ground Saver | $137.92 | 7 business days |
| USPS Ground Advantage | $149.18 | 14-15 business days |
| FedEx 2Day | $149.58 | 4-5 business days |
| UPS 2nd Day Air | $157.41 | 4-5 business days |
That box is not cheap, and the reason is dimensional weight rather than distance: a helmet does not compress, so the carton is priced closer to its size than its 12 lb on a scale. Notice, too, that the postal option is the slowest rather than the fastest on this particular lane — worth checking case by case rather than assuming Ground Advantage is always the patient, cheap choice. Whatever this table shows, it beats packing riding gear inside the bike itself, which Pasha Hawaii's personal-items rule does not allow in the first place.
Landing, registering, and everything after the dock
Once the bike clears the terminal, it goes through the same Hawaii vehicle registration process any mainland vehicle does, with its own paperwork and a fixed window to complete it — our vehicle-to-Hawaii cost guide covers that step in full, since nothing about it changes between two wheels and four. What is specific to a motorcycle stops at the dock: the size test, the empty saddlebags, and the sailing calendar above.

Common questions
Can a freight broker or a bike transporter get a motorcycle to Hawaii?
No truck reaches the islands. A mainland transporter can only carry the bike as far as a port, and from there Pasha Hawaii's own vehicle overview, read 2026-08-26, treats a motorcycle as one of the vehicle types it loads onto a vessel — the crossing is an ocean booking, not an extension of the road trip.
Does a motorcycle have its own size limit for the trip?
Yes. Pasha Hawaii's vehicles FAQ, read 2026-08-26, states the maximum dimensions for motorcycles must be no more than 96 inches in length, with a maximum tire width of 8 inches, a separate test from the general large-vehicle envelope used for cars and trucks.
Can I leave anything in the saddlebags?
No. Pasha Hawaii's vehicles FAQ names saddlebags on motorcycles specifically, alongside toolboxes and truck beds, among the compartments that must be emptied and left unlocked so the vehicle can be inspected free of personal items.
How long does the bike spend at sea?
Pasha Hawaii's vehicles FAQ, read 2026-08-26, gives the water time from San Diego as roughly 5 days to Honolulu and roughly 7 days to Kahului and Hilo. That clock starts once the vessel sails, so the days the bike waits in a mainland yard for its sailing, and the processing before it is released at the far end, sit outside the figure entirely.
What happens to the gear that comes out of the saddlebags?
It ships as an ordinary parcel. A boxed helmet, jacket and gloves at 12 lb quoted $134.37 on UPS Ground against production on 2026-08-26, Berkeley Heights, NJ to Honolulu, HI, arriving in 7-8 business days — a window worth comparing against the bike's own sailing date, since the vessel crossing has terminal days stacked on both ends of it.
