The notice sets no end date. The alerts page is the one that changes when acceptance resumes.
The notice, line by line
The industry alert behind the suspension is dated July 15, 2026 and is short. It is worth reading in the specific rather than the general, because it answers the two questions people actually have: what happens to a box already in the system, and whether the money comes back.
| Item | What the notice states |
|---|---|
| In force from | July 17, 2026, until further notice |
| Reason given | Unavailable transportation |
| Products stopped | Priority Mail Express International, Priority Mail International, First-Class Mail International, First-Class Package International Service, International Priority Airmail and M-Bag items |
| Not stopped | Military and diplomatic mail, unless separately noted |
| Items already deposited | International Service Center staff endorse them “Mail Service Suspended — Return to Sender” and place them back in the mail stream for return |
| Postage | A full refund of postage costs under DMM 604.9.2.3 when service to the destination country is suspended |
| Asked of customers | To refrain from mailing items addressed to the country until further notice |
The refund is the part most senders miss. It is not a goodwill gesture and it is not limited to the unused portion of a service; the manual entitles the customer to the postage back because the destination stopped being reachable after the label was bought. Keep the receipt and the tracking number, because both are what a refund request is built on.
Why the country listing still looks open
Anyone checking the postal country conditions page for Venezuela today will find a normal-looking document: a full table of products, weight limits of 66 lb, a maximum length of 36 inches on the express product and 42 inches on the standard one, 79 inches of length plus girth on both, and a customs form named for each. It carries no banner about the suspension.
That is not an error. The country listing holds the standing conditions for a destination, the rules that apply whenever mail moves. Suspensions are posted separately, on the international service alerts page, and they come and go on a timescale the manual does not track. Reading one without the other is how a parcel gets handed over on a lane that is closed. Check the alerts page last, immediately before mailing.
What to do with the shipment in the meantime
Already mailed
Expect it back rather than delivered, and expect the endorsement on the outside of the wrapper. Once it returns, ask for the postage refund the notice points to.
Not yet mailed
Hold it. Buying a label for a destination that is not accepting mail produces a return trip and a refund request, and nothing else.
It cannot wait
Commercial carriers make their own routing decisions and their own embargo calls, country by country and week by week. SMKlog sells parcel labels only.
Nothing on this site sells a Venezuela label. SMKlog sells parcel labels only and does not arrange pallet or freight shipments. Domestic parcels inside the United States are priced instantly through the calculator.
Worth knowing before the lane reopens
Venezuela publishes one of the more unusual prohibition lists in the manual, and several entries would stop a parcel that looked entirely ordinary from a United States kitchen table.
- Coffee, coffee extracts and similar preparations containing coffee. A gift bag of beans is not admissible.
- Remotely piloted aircraft in both piloted and unpiloted versions, including drones and scale models, and also the instructions and training in their use.
- Pension checks and bank account statements, plus credit and debit cards and lottery tickets.
- Cigarette papers and heated tobacco products, and advertisement or promotion of vapes, including electronic nicotine delivery systems and their non-nicotine equivalents.
- Pearls, and the usual monetary group: coins, currency, travelers checks, securities, stamps, precious metals, gems and jewelry.
- Perishable biological substances, infectious and non-infectious alike, and radioactive materials.
Two restrictions matter as much as the prohibitions. Pharmaceutical products need authorization from the Venezuelan Minister of Health, and most foodstuffs, plants and merchandise need prior approval from the relevant authority before they may be imported. Separately, the express product, First-Class Mail International and First-Class Package International Service may not contain dutiable merchandise at all, which pushes anything commercial onto Priority Mail International.
The address block deserves attention too. IPOSTEL, the Venezuelan postal operator, asks mailers to supply the building name, street name or number, floor and apartment number, house name or number, city or town, district, municipality, state, postcode and a nearby site reference, along with the addressee telephone number and email. Printed matter carries its own quirk: PS Form 2976 goes on the wrapper, and customs duty is assessed on it.
