Same carton, same weight, three destinations — and three different UPS prices.
The same box, three destinations
Berkeley Heights, NJ 07922 was the origin on every lane below. The parcel was 8 × 6 × 5 in at 2 lb, run through SMKlog's production checkout on 2026-08-31. Both sides of each comparison are shown, because a UPS number next to nothing else is not a comparison.
| Destination | Carrier | Service | Price | Transit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Toronto, Canada | UPS | UPS Standard | $25.83 | 2 business days |
| FedEx | International Connect Plus | $27.32 | 2 business days | |
| London, United Kingdom | UPS | Worldwide Economy DDU | $36.17 | 8 business days |
| FedEx | International Connect Plus | $38.41 | 4 business days | |
| Sydney, Australia | UPS | Worldwide Economy DDU | $52.96 | 8 business days |
| FedEx | International Connect Plus | $52.63 | 8 business days | |
| Berlin, Germany | UPS | no UPS rate returned | — | — |
Read the Australia row carefully: UPS was two cents behind FedEx's cheapest returned service on that lane, close enough that a different box or a different week could flip the order. Canada and the UK both went to UPS. Germany returned FedEx and DHL Express only on this box and this date — not a rule against UPS shipping to Germany generally, just what came back from SMKlog's own rate engine that day.
Why nobody can print a UPS international rate card
Domestic UPS pricing is at least built from a published zone chart. International pricing adds a fourth variable — the destination country's own customs handling and UPS's negotiated lane cost into it — and UPS does not publish that combination as a table anywhere. Its own international services page, read 2026-08-16 for our companion guide on UPS's nine international services, states timing for each tier but no prices at all. A live quote against your actual weight, dimensions and destination is the only honest number, ours included.
Distance is not the driver
The UK and Australia sit on opposite sides of the globe from New Jersey, yet Australia priced higher on UPS despite London being farther by some measures. Customs handling and the destination country's own delivery cost matter more than air miles.
DDU means the buyer sees a second bill
Every UPS row above rides Worldwide Economy DDU or Standard with duty unpaid at checkout — the shipping price is not the landed cost. Our guide to what UPS bills on an international package works through the Disbursement Fee, the Merchandise Processing Fee and the door-collection charge that can follow.
UPS answers on three of our four lanes
UPS itself sells nine international service names. SMKlog's checkout currently returns UPS on Canada and the UK and Australia specifically, each on one named service. SMKlog's online international labels cover Canada, the UK, Germany and Australia; other destinations are not sold here.
Where these figures come from
- SMKlog production checkout, quote-api.smklog.com — live rates for an 8 × 6 × 5 in, 2 lb box from 07922 to Toronto, London, Sydney and Berlin. Captured 2026-08-31, saved to data/captures/2026-08-31/international-launch-fixes.json.
- UPS, International Shipping Services — the nine service names and delivery timing UPS publishes; no prices on that page. Read 2026-08-16.
Carrier rates change week to week with fuel surcharges and demand. Treat the figures above as what came back on the date shown, and quote your own box for the number that actually applies.
UPS international rates, straight answers
How much does UPS charge to ship internationally?
It depends on the destination, since UPS prices international parcels by weight, dimensions and country rather than one published rate. On a 2 lb box quoted through SMKlog's checkout on 2026-08-31, UPS came back at $25.83 to Canada, $36.17 to the United Kingdom and $52.96 to Australia.
Is UPS the cheapest option for an international parcel?
Not on every lane. In the same 2026-08-31 capture, UPS was the cheapest carrier returned to Canada and to the United Kingdom, but FedEx International Connect Plus undercut it to Australia. Rates move with fuel surcharges and demand, so the ranking is worth re-checking on the day you actually ship.
Does UPS ship to Germany?
Yes in general, but not on SMKlog's checkout as of this capture. The same 2026-08-31 quote to Berlin returned FedEx and DHL Express only, no UPS row, on that specific lane and box.
Does UPS charge extra fees on top of the shipping rate?
On a dutiable shipment, yes. UPS's own Disbursement Fee, the government's Merchandise Processing Fee, and a charge for paying duty at the door instead of online can all land separately from the rate quoted here. Our companion page on UPS's international fees breaks each one down with the current published amount.
How many countries can SMKlog quote UPS for right now?
Three: Canada, the United Kingdom and Australia, each on UPS Standard or UPS Worldwide Economy DDU depending on the lane. SMKlog's online international labels cover Canada, the UK, Germany and Australia; other destinations are not sold here.
