The split nobody explains
FedEx runs two different weekend policies at once, which is exactly why the summary blogs contradict each other. Residential ground parcels get the weekend built in; the express tiers sell it.

On the other side of the line, FedEx lists Saturday delivery as available on First Overnight, Priority Overnight, Standard Overnight, 2Day and SameDay, with a weekend fee attached. FedEx does not publish the amount on that page, and the 2026 surcharge and fee changes file we read the same day has no Saturday entry anywhere in it, so this page will not put a number on it. Anyone who does is guessing.
Which weekend dates FedEx actually works in 2026
Its published 2026 schedule dates every weekend exception, and they are not all in the direction you would expect. Two Sundays are working days and one Saturday is a full closure.

The schedule carries a note that the FedEx column covers all U.S. and international parcel and express freight services except LTL freight, so pallet movements follow a different calendar entirely.

Ground Economy is the residential-focused tier, and its windows widen with distance in the way you would expect: 2-3 business days across the river, 8-9 to the far corner of the country. A weekend that falls inside one of those windows is not lost time on this service the way it is on a strict weekday network.
Home Delivery is a residential product
The seven-day behaviour belongs to residential parcels. A shipment to a commercial receiver follows the commercial pattern, so check the destination type before you assume a Saturday arrival on a business address.
Coverage is a percentage, not a promise
FedEx describes Saturday reach as 98% of the US population and Sunday reach as nearly two thirds. Both are population figures rather than address guarantees, which is another reason to price the specific address rather than the general rule.
The express fee is real but unpriced
If you buy an overnight or two-day tier and add Saturday, expect a line for it. Since neither the weekend page nor the 2026 fee document we read states the amount, confirm it on the shipping screen before you commit a customer to a Saturday date.

For residential parcels moving as FedEx Home Delivery, weekend delivery is part of the service and FedEx states plainly that it adds no fee for it. That is the single most misreported fact about FedEx weekends, because the express services behave the opposite way.

Nearly. Its published 2026 schedule shows FedEx open on Saturday 14 February, Saturday 4 April, Saturday 26 December and Saturday 2 January 2027, and closed on Saturday 4 July for Independence Day. Sundays are mixed: 5 April is closed for Easter, while 10 May and 21 June are open.
