Modified is a third state

Ten dates in 2026 are neither open nor closed. Flattening them is where competitor calendars go wrong.

The 2026 schedule, row by row

FedEx Custom Critical is marked available on every single row of the year, so it is left out of the table below to keep the columns readable. FedEx Logistics is closed on the seven full-closure dates and open otherwise.

Closed on seven dates: 5 April (Easter Sunday), 25 May (Memorial Day), 4 July (Independence Day), 7 September (Labor Day), 26 November (Thanksgiving Day), 25 December (Christmas Day) and 1 January 2027 (New Year’s Day). Ten further dates carry modified service, which is not a closure: pickups run early or on call in some areas. The remaining nine dated rows are ordinary operating days.

What the footnotes actually say

The three states on that table are only meaningful if you read the definitions FedEx attaches to them, so here they are as printed.

Early on-call pickups and drop box pickups (including Drop Box closures) in some areas.Footnote 1, 2026 FedEx holiday service schedule

FedEx Office locations will have modified hours, with some FedEx Office locations closed. Please contact your local FedEx Office location for details.Footnote 3, 2026 FedEx holiday service schedule

Neither footnote suspends delivery. Both are about collection: an earlier cutoff, a drop box that may be sealed, and in December a narrower Ground pickup. If you drop your own parcels rather than having them collected, a modified-service day mostly means going earlier.

A live lane to price against the calendar

Here is the complete rate set the SMKlog calculator returned on 2026-07-28 for a 12 x 10 x 6 in box at 5 lb, Newark, NJ 07102 to Dallas, TX 75201, with FedEx shown in context rather than alone.

The four ground rows sit inside 73 cents of each other on this lane, which means the calendar matters more than the price. If one carrier is closed or on modified pickup the day you are ready to ship, switching costs you almost nothing here.

Reading the FedEx calendar

What does modified service mean on the FedEx calendar?

FedEx defines it in footnote one as early on-call pickups and drop box pickups, including drop box closures, in some areas. Footnote two extends that for Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve with modified Ground pickups on 24 December and 31 December. Deliveries are not described as suspended on those rows.

Which days are fully closed for FedEx in 2026?

Easter Sunday 5 April, Memorial Day 25 May, Independence Day 4 July, Labor Day 7 September, Thanksgiving Day 26 November, Christmas Day 25 December and New Year's Day 1 January 2027. FedEx Office is also shown closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year's Day.

Does the FedEx column cover freight as well as parcels?

Not all of it. The schedule carries a note that FedEx includes all U.S. and international parcel and express freight services, except LTL freight services. If you are moving pallets rather than boxes, the parcel column on this calendar is not your answer.

How reliable are these dates?

They are what FedEx published, with its own caveat attached: the schedule states that the information reflects current operating schedules planned for these holiday periods, that dates are subject to change, and that updates will be posted on the FedEx page as each holiday approaches.
