The checkout stops short of selling a label and hands the shipment to manual review, because oversized lithium packs need a carrier-approved hazmat lane rather than a standard ground tag.
How the battery policy sorts devices
Our restrictions framework treats lithium by size and configuration, not by brand. Three tiers cover nearly everything with a cell in it.
Built-in, modest packs
Phones, laptops, earbuds, and similar devices with the battery installed ship by ground once you confirm the contents, and the parcel carries the UN3481 battery mark. Checkout walks through this automatically.
Power banks
Standalone packs up to 100 Wh and 5 lb are ground-only shipments under the UN3480 designation. Anything about them that is damaged, swollen, or recalled is refused entirely.
Above 100 Wh: review
Hoverboards, e-scooters, and portable power stations sit in this tier. Their packs are fully regulated Class 9 shipments even installed in the device, so SMKlog reviews them manually instead of printing an instant label.
The full policy lives on our shipping restrictions page, including the categories that are refused outright, such as loose replacement cells and damaged batteries. Reading it before you pack saves a blocked checkout later.
Hoverboard shipping questions
Can I buy an instant shipping label for a hoverboard?
Not through our self-service checkout. The board’s lithium pack exceeds the 100 Wh limit that instant ground labels require, so the shipment is flagged for manual review instead.
Why does the battery size matter so much?
Above 100 watt-hours, a lithium battery is a fully regulated Class 9 dangerous good, installed or not. Moving one legally takes a carrier-approved hazmat lane with its own packaging and paperwork, which no instant label covers.
What battery devices do ship normally?
Gadgets with reasonable built-in cells, from phones to cordless tools, go by ground with the UN3481 mark after a contents confirmation at checkout. Power banks within 100 Wh and 5 lb ship ground-only as UN3480.
What should I do with the hoverboard, then?
Submit it anyway and let the review run its course, or contact support with the model and battery rating first. If a compliant lane exists for your route, review is how it gets found.
